At the beginning of my senior year at SVA I decided that I wanted to create a series of paintings I could include in my portfolio. This is 1 of the 4 wood panels that the idea turned into. I actually found the panels tied up on the street with unfinished paintings on them. I took them, painted gesso over them, added my marks and this is the result. This piece is influenced by the recent Beck album and graffitied walls I was seeing around town. I also drew a little bit of inspiration from the Robert Rauschenberg show entitled Scenarios at the Pace Wildenstein Gallery in NYC that I had recently come back from. The edges of this wood panel, which are about 1.75" thick, have artwork on them which can't be seen in this picture.
